Episode 17 – A Plan
Gabby felt as though venom was seething through her veins. Seeing Aubrey and Miles together woke a rage in her she had forgotten she possessed. As she rushed through the ship to find her brother, she rehearsed all the things she might say. Who did Aubrey think she was? Betraying her brother, honing in on a man she had claims on from the start. Suddenly, it dawned on Gabby: her memory had returned.
Not letting the realization break her stride, Gabby looked through all of John’s usual haunts. Finding him back at the bridge, she noted he was not alone. No matter, she had something to say.
“Brother, get that filthy, light-weight slut you call a fiancé away from your First Mate.” The words spewed from Gabby’s mouth.
John’s back, which had been turned to his sister, suddenly tensed. She knew she should have treaded more lightly, but he needed to know.
Turning slowly toward Gabby, the captain spat each word with angry vigor, “What did you just say?”
“You heard me. That girl you brought on this ship, our FATHER’S ship, was just getting friendly with Miles.”
Before she knew what was happening, John was across the room, his hand around her throat. “You speak one more word against that woman, it will be the last you ever say to me. We are leaving this island, and so help me, I will leave you on it.”
Shock and fear shot through Gabby, but her face was stone. Ashe loosened his grip, she rasped, “Fine, you want to lose her, that’s on you. Don’t blame me when you find out how misplaced your loyalties are!”
John let Gabby go, and she left the room as quickly as she had come. She wouldn’t speak a word against “precious Aubrey,” but she would never let her be with Miles as long as she drew breath.
Back in the engine room, Aubrey and Miles were at a loss for what to do. For a moment, they considered going after Gabby, but caution won out. Miles was pacing back and forth as Aubrey talked through their options nervously. Finally, Miles stopped and shared the plan that had been brewing in his mind.
“Okay. We don’t say a word. We act like nothing happened and go on about our business. Gabby will tell John, as sure as I stand here. The saving grace is that she is a pure psycho and the captain isn’t likely to believe her. We start acting nervous, he’ll get suspicious. Say nothing. Do you understand?” Miles looked expectantly at Aubrey, waiting for a response.
“Sure, but if Gabby is truly psychotic, she isn’t going to let it go. What if she does something drastic?”
“We just have to hope she won’t long enough to escape.”
“Escape? How? We are stuck here.” Aubrey felt an irresistible surge of hope.
