Can Caroline bounce back after her career takes a nose dive due to the negligence of an uncaring, disengaged man who ran her down without so much as an apology? Elliott Maxwell is busy saving his grandmother’s company from his scheming stepmother. He decides he needs a mole and thinks Caroline is perfect for the job. Previously… Caroline moved into Elliott’s house, and he tries to make her feel comfortable. He shows her to her new room, and it’s the most beautiful thing she’s ever seen. While exploring, she finds an awesome closet, but when Elliott sees her in it, he gets upset and leaves the room.
Caroline had been looking for Elliott for close to thirty minutes. The minute this meeting was over, she was hunting down Mr. Wellington to ask him for a map of this place. Or maybe they had their house programmed on a GPS, and she could plug in her desired end point, and she could follow the blue ball. Smiling, she followed the voices and finally found Elliott and his guest.
Walking into his office, she stopped. Seeing Caroline, both men stopped talking and shot to their feet. “Caroline!” Elliott came towards her saying, “I’m glad you finally made it, Sweetheart.”
Giving him the evil-eye, she said, “Well, SugarLips, it appears Mr. Wellington vacuumed up the breadcrumbs you left for me to follow. I took a wrong turn but have no fear once I made it up to the turret, Rapunzel reprogrammed my maps app, and sure enough, I made it here without any more problems.”
Elliott cringed, but they both turned when they heard Ted chuckle.
“What? Boss, you have to admit, that was funny.”
Caroline didn’t wait for Elliott to reply, she just walked over to Ted and patted his cheek, saying, “Oh Ted, if only it weren’t true.” Turning towards Elliott, she continued, “Elliott, it’s late, and I’m exhausted, can you tell me what this is all about?”
Everyone sat down, and he began. “Well, as I was just telling Ted, I think I’ve come up with a plan to get me the evidence to prove that Kitty and Simon are embezzling from the company. And not just money. Designs too.”
Raising an eyebrow, “I’m all ears,” Caroline told him, “Please continue.”
An hour later, Elliott closed the front door as their visitor left the house. Turning around, he walked towards Caroline, “So do you think it will work?”
Shrugging her shoulders, she watched Elliott approach. “It’s a solid plan, and not one I would have ever thought of, so ya, I think it will. It’s just twisted enough that no one will ever suspect a thing.”
Chuckling, Elliott stopped right in front of Caroline. “That’s what I was going for. The element of surprise.”
“Are you hungry? I think I skipped dinner.”
“No, I think-“ she started to say but was interrupted by the giant rumbling in her stomach. Blushing, she said, “Ya, I think I missed that same meal.”
“Great, let’s go raid the kitchen.” Grabbing her hand, Elliott led them to the kitchen where they found the makings for sandwiches.
“Hmm?” Turning towards the island, his arms full of food.
“Are you going to tell me why you were so upset when you came into my room?” She wondered if it had anything to do with the photos of two little boys she had seen hanging on the walls.
Putting down the food, he went to stand in front of Caroline. “Yes, I will. But not tonight. It was a long time ago, and there’s nothing anyone can do, and it just makes everyone sad.” Looking deep into her eyes, he continued, “We need to focus on our plan for tomorrow. Are you up for it?”
