Can Caroline bounce back after her career takes a nose dive due to the negligence of an uncaring, disengaged man who ran her down without so much as an apology? Elliott Maxwell is busy saving his grandmother’s company from his scheming stepmother. He decides he needs a mole and thinks Caroline is perfect for the job. Previously… Elliott decided that Caroline was his live-in girlfriend and sent men over to pack up her belongings. Jose was no help since Elliott made him a deal and found him an apartment he’d always wanted to live it.
“Quit being a whiny baby, Caro. I know plenty of girls,” Jose paused for a second, “and plenty of guys too, who would die to be in your shoes right now.”
“Then you go and take my place,” Caroline pouted, as she sat in her now bare bedroom.”No way, I’ve got a sweet deal with El. He’s setting me up with an apartment in a building I’ve been coveting ever since I got invited to a party at a friend’s place last year.
“No way, I’ve got a sweet deal with El. He’s setting me up with an apartment in a building I’ve been coveting ever since I got invited to a party at a friend’s place last year.
“What? You never told me that.”
“I didn’t want to hurt your feelings, or make you think you were a burden.” Walking over to stand in front of her, Jose helped her up and into his arms.
Tears sprang to Caroline’s eyes as she hugged him back. She was having a hard time believing that just a few hours ago her life was just a little whacked up. Now, it was totally whacked. With a capital W. “Will we still see each other?” She choked out.
“Of course, silly. I’m not dying or moving to Australia. I’m just moving across town. It’s closer to Elliot’s house than this place. You’ll see, it’s going to be awesome.”
Caroline tried to remember those words as she waved goodbye before getting into the car Elliott had sent over. It was impossible to keep the tears from streaming down her face as she turned to see Jose waving goodbye.
Suddenly the back of the seat in front of her lit up. “Hey, Girlfriend Caroline. Why are you crying?” Asked the widescreen shot of Elliott calling her from his home office.
Caroline jumped when Elliott came on the screen. She was still mad, so she turned her face away, hoping he got the hint to leave her alone.
“Listen GC, I know you’re upset, but believe me, this is for the best.”
“GC? That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.” Hearing him chuckling made her madder, so she tried to ignore him by scooting out of his site.
“That’s not going to work, GC,” he told her as his image appeared on the back of the other seat.
Before Caroline could reply, the car pulled into a driveway, and a portly grey-haired gentleman opened her car door. Offering her his hand, he said, “Ms. West, welcome home.”
Allowing him to help her out of the car, she turned to him, “I’m sorry, Mr?”
“Mr. Wellington, Miss.”
“Mr. Wellington, you must have me mistaken for someone else. This,” pointing to the opulence that lay before her, “is not my home. Elliott is-.”
“Darling GC, I’m so glad you finally made it.” Smiling, Elliott came strolling from the house. Pulling her into his arms, he captured her mouth before she could process what he was going to do. But damn his mouth felt good, and she couldn’t remember why she was mad at him.
Then she remembered and bit down hard on his tongue which had invaded her mouth.
