Lily looked at Damen as he laid down his fork and started to rub his eyes.

“Please tell me, Damen, What were you were doing?”

Damen let out a sigh. “I didn’t trust Tod.”

Lily was surprised but didn’t say anything. She wanted him to continue.

“I questioned Tod that day on the elevator because I didn’t trust him a little bit. Then I saw him this morning at a coffee shop talking to Nicholas. I didn’t quite hear the whole conversation, but what I did hear was weird. So I decided to go to the carnival at the end of the day and see that you made it to your car safely. Lucky I was there.”

“Wait. You saw Tod and Nicholas? What did they say that was weird?”

“They said that the plan would take place tonight after the carnival. So that’s why I was there. I didn’t trust Tod. But now I see that it wasn’t Tod that I had a feeling about; it was his friend.”

Lily was feeling ill again. What plan? This was getting too scary.

“Oh no. Are you okay? You look pale again.”

“I’ll be fine. Thank you for the meal. It hit the spot after the day I’ve had.”

Damen nodded his head. After the meal was over, they both did the dishes, and then Lily walked to the front door.

“Well, again, thanks-“

Lily turned around to see Damen going into the living room and laying down on the couch. She walked over to him.

“What are you doing?”

“Sleeping. Care to join me?” He said softly and smiled at Lily, which made her heart warm. She sat on the chair next to the couch, and not even seconds later, Damen was asleep.

Lily just sat there and watched him. What is this feeling I have? I don’t want him to leave. Am I… in love? Lily was in thought when her cell phone started to buzz. She grabbed it and answered before she even looked to see who was calling.

“Hello?” Lily whispered.

“He might not have gotten you tonight, but you won’t always be a lucky girl, Lily.”

It was a girl’s voice, and before Lily could say anything, the connection was dropped. Lily looked at her phone in confusion. Who was that? What is going on?! Should I tell Damen? Maybe he can help me. Lily decided to go to sleep and figure it out in the morning. After double checking all the locks in the house, she went to bed.
