Episode 7

Caroline stepped off the elevator the next morning not sure she’d made the right decision. She was wearing the clothes Elliott had chosen, she styled her hair how the stylist had shown her, and she was rockin’ her bright red, chunky framed glasses she’d picked out while visiting Glasses 4 U.

“Come on Caro, you can do this,” mumbling to herself.

She caught the eye of the woman sitting outside Elliott’s office. “Can I help you,” she asked as she ran her eyes up and down Caroline’s outfit, sticking her nose up like a dog who is too good for the treat you are trying to offer it.

Caroline wasn’t sure what to do. Did this woman know Elliott was expecting her this morning? Should she just sit down and wait? She was, after all, fifteen minutes early. Still contemplating what to do, the choices were taken out of her hands as Elliott came bursting out of the office.

“Marge, I’m looking for….” He started to ask his secretary, but instantly stopped when he saw Caroline standing there looking lost. “Caro…, glad you made it. Go right on into my office and have a seat,” motioning to his door. Glancing back to his secretary, Elliott said, “Hold my calls, Marge.” Turning, he followed Caroline into his office and shut the door.

“Have a seat, Caroline,” Elliott motioned as he came towards her. “I wasn’t expecting you this early.”

“You did say first thing in the morning last night, right?”

Chuckling, he said, “Yes, I suppose I did. I guess I expected you to be later than…” looking at his watch, “seven-thirty.”

Shrugging her shoulders, Caroline told him, “I’m an overachiever.” Smiling, she took a seat by the window overlooking the city.

Taking his first look at her, he was impressed with what she had done to herself. He especially liked what she had done with her hair and he told her.

“You can thank Jan for that one. She took me to her hairstylist. I didn’t have a say in it at all.”

“Remind me to give her a bonus the next time I see her.” Elliott stared at her so long Caroline began to blush. Putting a hand to her hair she silently thanked Jan for forcing her to make a decision she was dead set against.

Clearing his throat, Elliott moved to his desk where a stack of work awaited him. On top was a file he wanted to show Caroline, but something stopped him. He was just about to turn around when the door to his office flew open, rattling the windows.

“What the hell?” Elliott jerked so fast, his arm hit the file sending it skidding to the floor, landing right at Caroline’s feet. Bending down to pick it up, she was stopped when a size 7 candy red stiletto stepped on her fingers preventing her.

“Darling, why haven’t you returned my calls?”
