Episode 16

Lily went on her assignment to the carnival with Tod, and when she got to the entrance, she saw Tod talking to Nicholas. They then revealed they were childhood friends and Tod had asked him to come with them. Lily had fun with Tod, but Nicholas and Lily were eventually left alone. Lily was trying to figure out why Nicholas was there, and his response was that it was a coincidence. When the assignment was over, Lily walked to her car, where Nicholas tried to ask her out. She told him that today wasn’t a good day, but Nicholas wasn’t taking no for an answer. With Nicholas holding her against her will, she heard a voice from the shadows. The readers voted for the person in the shadows to be Damen.Lily’s heart was beating wildly as Nicholas’s hand grasped her wrist tightly. She looked to the shadows where the voice came from, and Damen stepped out with a serious but angry look on his face. Lily looked at her assailant. Nicholas scoffed and straightened up his posture.

“What did you say?”

You heard me.” Damen took slow steps toward Nicholas. When he came only a few feet away from them, he stopped. “That’s no way to treat a lady. Especially Lily.”

Lily felt intimidated and scared. She looked at Nicholas from over Damen’s shoulder. His eyes were staring right back into Damen’s, and his face was red with anger.

“You won’t always be around,” Nicholas whispered.

Lily didn’t hear Nicholas clearly. He turned around and walked away without saying another word. When he was finally gone, Lily let out a deep breath. Damen turned around to her.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m all right,” Lily said, with her head facing the ground. Her body was still shaking from the terrifying look in Nicholas’s eyes.

Damen gently lifted Lily’s face so she would look at him. When Lily looked into his eyes, she felt all her fear start to melt. She threw her arms around his neck and buried her face into his chest, while tears started to roll down.

“Lily.” Damen stroked her hair, trying to soothe her. Lily started to feel lightheaded as she clutched Damen’s shirt, her vision going dark. She looked at Damen’s face, but it was blurry. Damen wrapped his arms around Lily’s waist to hold her up.

“Lily, what’s wrong? Lily?”

That was the last thing Lily heard before her eyes closed and everything went blank.

Later that night, Lily started to wake up. She looked around to see things inside her house. After a few minutes, Lily sat up and found herself on her bed in her bedroom. She tried to remember what had happened, but only ended up confused. Oh yeah. Damen saved me from Nicholas. But how did I get home?

Lily’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of someone in her kitchen. Lily looked at the clock. It was 11:34. Who’s in my house? She made her way quickly to her kitchen to find Damen bent over, picking up pots and pans off the floor. He looked up at her and smiled awkwardly.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“What are you doing here?”

“Waiting for you to wake up and recover. You passed out, so I brought you home and laid you in bed. I just thought you needed some rest.”

“Damen. I have a question for you.”

Damen stood up and looked at Lily. “Can we talk over dinner? I thought maybe you’d be hungry, so I made you some food as well.”

Lily nodded her head, and they got food and sat down to start eating.

“Damen, why were you at the carnival today?”

Damen stopped eating and looked at Lily.
