Previously… Lily and Damen were at a wedding. Isabelle got distraught and made an outburst for Damen’s affection. Damen denied her and then Isabelle revealed that they had a past together and that she would never give up on him. Lily tried to get an answer out of Damen, but he stated he didn’t want to scare her away because he cares about her. Lily’s head was hurting, so she asked to go home. While on the way to the parking lot, they heard someone behind them clear their throat.
They both turned around to see a man with clean, shaggy, golden-brown hair smiling at them. He bowed. When he straightened, he looked into Lily’s eyes. Lily suddenly felt a cold shiver up her spine feeling like she was going to faint. His look alone made Lily go stiff with a strange fear.
Damen noticed Lily’s body tense and tightened his grip on her hip as if to ease her.
The man spoke. “Good evening. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help but notice you forgot your purse, miss.”
He extended his arm to hand her the purse. Lily cautiously took it. Accidentally brushing her fingers with his, she suddenly felt sick.
“Thank you kindly, sir,” said Damen.
The man nodded his head, still smiling.
“My name is Nicholas Tazmen.”
“Ryan Jones and this is my date, Tara Andrews. I’m sorry, but we were just leaving. Tara doesn’t feel too well right now. Thank you again for returning her purse.”
“Oh, it is quite all right. Nice to have met you two. I hope we can meet again here soon.”
He looked Lily right in the eyes. “Have a wonderful night.”
He bowed one last time and left. Lily did not want to stay any longer.
“Can we leave now, please?” she softly pleaded to Damen. He nodded and got her into a limo. After what felt like forever, they finally pulled up to Lily’s house. After Damen escorted her to the door, Lily struggled to fit her keys into the lock. Her hands shook with the image of Nicholas’s cold eyes staring at her.
Damen placed his hand around Lily’s to calm her. Together, they unlocked the door. Lily stepped inside and said to Damen, “Thank you. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight, Lily.” His sweet voice soothed Lily’s nerves in a single sentence.
She looked at him, smiled, and then shut the door. Lily barely had enough energy to change into her pajamas. She plopped down onto her bed and closed her eyes. Soon, she drifted off into slumber.
Three days later, Lily was sitting at a local café, reading a news article off of her laptop about Isabelle on page four. The headline read, “Model Goes on Drunken Rampage”. She had apparently gotten drunk a day after the wedding and made a scene at a restaurant. Karma sucks, Lily thought as she smiled slightly.
Lily took a sip of her coffee and looked up. It took every ounce of control in her to not spit out her drink. What was he doing here?
Standing at the counter paying for his drink was Nicholas Tazmen. Lily bowed her head, trying to avoid eye contact. Maybe if she didn’t show her face, then he wouldn’t recognize her. She silently prayed for him to simply leave.
Her body froze as he dropped down onto the chair across the table from her. Lily’s knees started to shake under the table. What is wrong with me? Why am I getting this feeling from him? I don’t understand why I am so afraid.
Nicholas stared at Lily intensely. His smile grew wider and a few of his teeth were showing, making him look like a wolf. He leaned forward, stretching his long arms halfway across the table.
“I’m so glad we ran into each other. I was just thinking that I would never get to see you again. But now, here we are. Fate must have wanted me to talk to you again. Lucky me.”
Lily was freaking out. Not only was she strangely scared of him, but she wasn’t allowed to let others from her assignment know who she really was and what she did. She had to find a way to leave.
