Previously… Vera works for a company called Loan Some, that loans out friends to the lonely and for other events. At a new assignment, Vera sees a couple she met on a previous Loan Some assignment. Readers voted for it to be Chip and Alexis Killingsworth, the geeky couple from the comic book event.

Episode 2

Vera realized she knew the other couple. It was Chip and Alexis Killingsworth, from her first Loan Some assignment ever. At this first assignment, Chip had been trying to make his wife, Alexis, jealous by hiring Vera, dressed as Chewbacca, to accompany him to a comic book event. In the end, it worked, and Vera had incidentally reunited the couple.

Now, she only hoped that Chip didn’t recognize her and blow this whole operation.

Chip was dressed in a ratty Evolution of Man T-shirt, where the last figure in the sequence was a robot. Alexis sat next to him, wearing a shirt with a unicorn on it, with the horn physically coming out of the shirt so it looked like she’d been stabbed.

“Hello, Killingsworths,” said Carrie, as she, Vera, and Cole came down the stairs. “These are the Larsons. They, too, are interested in this house.”

“Really, Larsons are?” said Chip, standing up from the living room couch.

Vera internally rolled her eyes, recalling how Chip liked to backwards-speak like Yoda.

“Yes,” said Carrie, visibly uncomfortable before regaining her composure. “I didn’t realize they were going to stop by today. I apologize for this awkwardness. But unfortunately, the Larsons have outbid you.”

“You look familiar,” said Alexis, eyeing up Cole and Vera.

“Oh, do I?” said Vera, adjusting her hat.

“No, your husband.”

Cole’s eyes bulged out. “Me?”

“Yeah. Did we go on an OKCupid date a few years ago?”

Vera was shocked. Alexis didn’t remember her, but she remembered Cole? Vera had been dressed as Chewbacca for Pete’s sake.

“We love this house,” said Chip. “Carrie, can Alexis and I discuss this bid in the kitchen? We have something we want to share.”

“Sure.” The Killingsworths followed Carrie into the kitchen.

“How do they look familiar to me?” said Cole. “Did I actually go on an OKCupid date with her years ago?”

“They were my first assignment. Remember? Dueling lightsabers?”

“Oh, right. Crap. You don’t think they recognized us, did they? Is that why they took Carrie into the kitchen?”

Just then, Carrie, Alexis, and Chip returned from the kitchen, with grave faces.

“Something has just come to my attention,” said Carrie. “That the Killingsworths want you to know about.”

Vera felt like this moment called for a dramatic gulp, but she didn’t have one in her. She also made a mental note for future Loan Some assignments to find out whether parties involved had been participants in past cases.
