Previously… After Val’s date with Ryan, she literally bumped in Marcus on the street. Does Marcus escort Val home?
Val stood there stunned for a moment. Not really sure what to do.
Of course that was the time Amber decided to chime in again. “So, are you aborting the mission?” Amber prompted.
“I don’t know…” Val sighed to both Amber and Marcus.
“Make up your mind!” Amber ordered.
Marcus for his part was more patient. He took a step back. “Look if it’s been a long day for you, if you need some alone time I understand. I just thought you might want a friend.” He smiled and gave a little shrug. “You can never have too many friends…”
Val agreed that you couldn’t have too many friends. She just wasn’t sure if she wanted a friend right at this instant. Truthfully, she had started to doubt her mission. Well at least the extended goals of her mission. She had been to Earth and interacted with its people. Maybe now it was time to “Call it a day” as they say on Earth and return to her home planet. Maybe she needed more prep time to deal with Earth males? Maybe Earth males were just too incompatible?
Marcus must have noticed the look of confusion on Val’s face. He dipped his head. “I can tell you are tired. I’ll just leave you be for now. But I will call you a cab so I can feel confident that you get home safely.” He turned to face the street and began waving at the yellow vehicles racing by.
“Report!” Amber blared in Val’s mind. “I am picking up some really weird signals from you!”
Val took a deep breath. She swallowed hard then cleared her throat. “I could use a friend right now…” she said to Marcus.
Marcus stopped waving and turned towards her. His face lit up. “Well I would be honored to escort you.” He paused for a moment. “To your apartment.”
Val nodded. “It would be my pleasure.”
Marcus walked up to her and offered her his arm. “It’s a gesture of friendship,” he reassured her.
Though this was certainly not a move any man on her planet would have made, Val accepted the gesture. She smiled as she wrapped her arm through Marcus’ arm. The warmth of his body felt comforting. They started walking forward.
“You’re different,” Marcus told Val.
Val tilted her head. “Is that a good thing?”
Marcus smiled and nodded. “Yes, you are different in a nice way. I can’t put my finger on it, but somehow you don’t seem like your average girl from Kansas to me.”
Val let herself reveal a hint of a return smile. “So, you’re an expert on girls from Kansas?”
Marcus shook his head. “No not really, but I do know different when I see it. And you Val are different.”
Val shook her head. “You have no idea.”
“Well, you did tell me you were an alien,” Marcus teased.
Val giggled. “I did indeed.”
The two walked on towards Val’s apartment. The setting sun was now coating the area with a glow that when combined with a warm early evening breeze made Val feel kind of tingly.
Marcus noticed the look of contentment on her face. ”What are you thinking about?”
“That it’s been an interesting day,” Val said.
“First days on a job can be quite interesting….” Marcus said.
“I should be exhausted,” Val told him. “And I am tired. But it’s a good tired,” she admitted.
“Would you be too tired for me to show you something?” Marcus asked.
Val looked at him questioningly, “I’m not sure…”
“I promise it will only take a minute and you will like it. Just one more block down. Unless of course it’s further than your apartment and you are too tired. Then maybe another time.” Val was surprised to see Marcus a little unsure of himself.
Val was tired, and she also needed to report to Amber. But she was also curious about what Marcus thought she would like to see. She could feel her feet starting to ache and Amber was still buzzing in the background. Vote below or enter your own comments about what happens next.
