Previously… Val is rock climbing on her first date with Ryan who is now flirting with another woman.
Val reached up and whacked the bell again and again. Looking down, she saw Ryan still locked in on Dina. Dina for her part seemed to be focusing on his every word. Val sighed and shook her head.
“Status?” Amber ordered.
Val sighed again. “I’m stuck up a man-made cliff just dangling and ringing a bell trying to get my date to lower me…”
“Okay, don’t tell me…” Amber groaned.
Val decided to let it go at that. She had other problems to deal with. First, she needed to get her feet back on the ground. Second she needed to handle Ryan and Dina.
Her first instinct was to zap Dina’s mind. Val hadn’t been on earth for very long but she could still tell this woman was after Ryan and would do whatever she could to get him. For some reason, this angered Val, much more than she would have thought.
“I guess that’s what they mean by the phrase all’s fair in love and war…” Val muttered to herself. She decided though to give Dina a chance. After all, Val was an advanced being. “Ryan, please let me down!” Val thought at Ryan.
Suddenly Ryan’s eyes popped wide open. His attention shifted upwards to Val. “Oh, my Val! I’m so sorry!” he shouted up to her.
Val felt herself lowering. As she descended slowly but surely towards the ground she kept her eyes locked on Dina. Dina was now leaning towards Ryan. It appeared she was getting ready to whisper something to him. Val wasn’t going to let that happen. “Dina, you have to urinate very very badly!” Val mentally ordered as she drew closer to the ground.
Val touched the floor just in time to hear Dina feverishly tell Ryan. “Sorry, I have to go – bad!”
Val watched Dina move as fast a person could while keeping their legs tightly shut.
Ryan put a hand on Val’s shoulder and looked her in the eyes. “Val, I am so so, sorry! It’s just when I get talking about my workouts and climbing I tend to get very focused. Too focused.” He paused for a second. “I don’t suppose you want to make another climb.” Putting his hand on his heart. “I promise you will have my complete and undivided attention. I swear!”
Val shook her head. “It’s been a long day. One climb is enough for me….”
Ryan bent over and helped her remove her harness. “Here let me get that for you…”
“I can remove a simple harness….” Val said slipping out of the harness while not looking directly at Ryan. She let the harness drop to the ground.
“At least, let me buy you a drink and dinner….” Ryan said pointing to other the side of Rocks on the Rocks. “The food here is good.”
Val shook her head. “Like I said it’s been a LONG day…” she started to walk past Ryan.
Ryan reached up and put a hand on her shoulder. “Yeah, I messed up. I messed up big time. I know that. I get that. But please give me a chance to make it up to you.” He locked eyes with Val. “I swear you will have my complete and undivided attention!”
Val was torn. After all, being a social scientist she needed to learn as much about humans as possible. That was her mission. But she was quite tired and more than a little angry at Ryan. Maybe she had learned enough – at least about Ryan. Vote below or enter your own comments about what happens next. If reading in email click Take our Poll or Comments.
