In the previous episode, Alana was faced with a decision between telling the truth about what happened with Bob or continuing to play innocent. She decided to continue acting as though she knew nothing.

Episode 10

Jason and I go to a private lounge near the debriefing room. I am anxious and worried but trying not to show it. Jason brings me a cup of warm coffee.

“Is there anything you want to talk about before your debriefing?” Jason asks.

I take a sip of the coffee. “Thank you for the coffee, Jason,” I tell him. Looking him in the eyes I say. “Everything is fine. I just haven’t slept much.”

Jason smiles at me. “Understandable. First you travel through time to a plane crash. Then one of your friends attacks you. Then that so-called friend has a heart attack.”

“Yes, it has been a series of unusual events even for me….”

“You handled everything excellently. From that Lauren woman in your last trip and then Bob…” Jason tells me.

“Thank you,” I tell him.

“How are you and Lily getting along?” Jason asks me.

After all that has happened these last few hours, I find that to be an interesting question. I grin. “Lily and I have always had a complicated relationship.”

Two security guards walk into the lounge. “Excuse me Alana, Jason, Dr. Conners and Mr. Cash would like to see you now,” one of them tells us.

Jason looks at his watch. He turns to the guards. “But Alana is not due there for another forty-five minutes.”

“There has been a change,” the guard says coldly. “We are to escort you to debriefing room M1.”

“Please come with us,” the other guard says.

“Room M1?” Jason looks puzzled. “Why there?”

The guards both shake their heads. “We don’t ask questions, we just do what we are told.”

I stand up. “It’s okay, Jason I want to get this over with…”

I walk towards the guards.

The guards escort Jason and I out of the lounge down another long hall way. “Why have I never been in room M1 before,” I ask.

“It’s a classified room…” Jason tells me. He is more rigid than usual.

I lean into Jason and whisper. “Jason please, tell me what’s in there?”

“The latest in lie detection science,” he says.

Jason and I walk in silence. Finally after what seemed to be hours but was really just minutes we come to a large windowless metal door. One of the guards presses some buttons on the keypad at the side of the door. The door pops open.

“Go in, please,” the guard says.

Jason and I walk into the room. It’s a large lab type space broken up into two areas. The front area has a long table and chairs with bright overhead lights.   Sitting at that table are Dr. Conners, Mr. Cash and Lily. Why in the hell would Lily be here? I notice the back of the room has a control panel and an observation area that over looks a large tubular machine.

“Thank you for coming, Alana,” Mr. Cash says. He points to the chair across the table from the three of them. “Please sit.”

Dr. Conners looks at Jason. “Jason, please make sure the MRI is ready.”

Jason nods and heads to the back of the room.

“What’s this all about?” I ask as I sit down.

Dr. Conners smiles at me. “Alana, we have another mission for you. Another chance for you to travel… Have you heard of the Brighter Day Cult in Wyoming?”

“Just a little,” I say.

“Well, they have been stock piling arms for years. Early today they shot and killed a sheriff who was on a routine call there. They have declared their land as a sovereign state.   They have also taken a few locals hostage. The FBI needs to shut them down now!” Dr. Conners informs me.

“So how does this involve me?” I ask.

“Alana your abilities make you the ultimate information collecting machine. You are more accurate than any satellite, drones or infrared cameras. You can visit the camp and report on the personnel they have, where the hostages are and how well armed the followers are. You can make the FBI’s job much easier,” Mr. Cash says.

I look at Lily. “Then why is she here?”

“That’s where this gets touchy,” Mr. Cash admits. “After what happened to Bob, Lily came to us. She told us she has been picking up some very weird readings from you, after your last trip. She also told us, that Bob told her you changed something in the past.”

I sit back in my seat. My heart is pounding. I take a deep breath, then another. “I can’t change the events when I travel.”

“That’s what we’ve always believed,” Dr. Conners says. “Changing past events should be impossible”

“I agree with Bob, your vibe has been off since the last time trip,” Lily says coolly.

I look down at the table. “It wasn’t easy watching all those people die…”

Dr. Conners reaches across the table and puts a hand on my shoulder. “Of course it wasn’t. But now you have a chance to save many lives. Only before you do that we need to make sure we can trust you.”

“Of course you can trust me. I only want to help,” I insist.

“Good, then you should have no problem taking this MRI,” Dr. Conners says with a smile.

This place is getting on my nerves. If they detect I have something to hide they will punish and brainwash me like they did to Cindy last year for complaining too much. They used magnetic waves to alter her perception against her will and make her more cooperative. Now she’s like a sheep. I don’t want to become like her…  Vote below on what will happen next or if reading in email click Take our Poll.
